MATARIKI AT BASTION POINT, AUCKLAND
For some years now, in July (mid-winter) there has
been a Manu Aute Kite Day in front of Orakei
Marae on Bastion Point, Auckland. This event
celebrates Matariki, an event of importance to
Maori.
With winter flying you either get wet & windy or
fine and no wind unless you are lucky and get the
change over day. In 2010 we hit the jackpot with a
fine day and lovely wind off the land giving us the
harbour as a background to some awesome
photos.
These are a few of those special moments/events that have occurred as a result of our kite making and flying
around New Zealand and the world.
Our Special Moments in Kiting 2
CHATEAU
Each New Year for the last 11 years we have had a kite day on the
Chateau Tongariro golf course. The kite day and the days leading
up to it have provided us with some very special photo opportunities.
This is a photo of our circoflex kite framing the peak of Mt
Ruapehu. It was taken by a member of the Taupo Photography
Club.
A planned early evening fly at the Chateau was transformed into a
15 minute special moment when the sun lit up a ridge in front of Mt
Ngauruhoe. As you can see it was cold due to snow falling at high
altitudes during the day.
